Coalport Redevelopment
Trenton, NJ
In early 2013, the City of Trenton and its partners announced their intentions to redevelop Coalport into a mixed-use community with a focus on tourism. The redevelopment will preserve the existing historic and architectural elements while adding new amenities that will attract residents, businesses and visitors to the downtown area. Over the past few years, the team has held several public meetings to gather input from the community and identify priorities for the redevelopment.
This project seeks to bring the community together by building a Sports Recreational Center. It would be located adjacent to the Highway, and intercepted by a trail and an old railway. This plan would cater to sports enthusiasts of all ages and abilities, provide a healthy outlet for recreational activity and serve as a gathering place for the community. The project's goal is to bring new investment to the City to revitalize its downtown and create jobs. It will reconnect the City with the Waterfront and create a destination for residents and tourists alike. The redevelopment will incorporate pedestrian friendly designs with open spaces and amenities for children and families.
